Empowerment of Women

The education and enlightenment of women means the upliftment of the whole family. Secondly, women play a pivotal role in the socialization of children. It is also seen that a majority of children who have come onto the streets have shown emotional attachment with their mothers. However, the inability of mothers in taking proper care of children can be attributed to their economic dependency on their husbands. Money power and decision making lies in the hands of the men folk who often misuse it to fulfil their own vices at the cost of the family. The worst affected will be the children who are deprived of not only their basic needs and rights but most importantly the ‘childhood’. HCHW started working with women in urban slums with the assumption that their empowerment and subsequent paradigm shift of economic and decision making power into their hands may definitely go in favour of children. HCHW started its work in four slums spread over a hill connecting Tolichowki and Film Nagar areas towards west zone of Hyderabad. Presently, HCHW is operating in twelve slums with fifty SHGs covering a population of about one thousand families
